Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise for anyone wanting to improve their ‘core’ and general body strength. ‘Core’ muscles are deep muscles which subconsciously provide stability to the back, pelvis, hips, and abdomen. The main ‘core’ muscles are made up of the transverse abdominals, pelvic floor, multifidus, erector spinae, rectus abdominus, and the internal and external obliques. If these muscles are strong and activate correctly, it allows the more superficial body muscles to function more efficiently. This can reduce the risk of injury and compensatory malalignments throughout the body, as well as the aches and pains that come with them.
The session will begin with a short warm-up, and end with a cool-down. The main bulk of the class will take place lying on a mat. Some exercises are designed for lying on your back, some on your side, and some on your front, so that each muscle is activated correctly. I also add stretches to my sessions to enable muscle lengthening, and improve joint mobility.
One-to-One Pilates sessions are 50 minutes long. Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and socks. Mats and all other Pilates equipment will be provided for you. All equipment is cleaned rigorously between sessions.
Looking forward to seeing you!
