What is Neurological Physiotherapy?
Neurophysiotherapy is the science of rehabilitating children and adults with a range of neurological conditions some of which include Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Parkinson disease, Brain & Spinal Cord Injuries, Muscular Dystrophies etc.
What happens during the sessions?
An initial assessment will help identify the problems caused by your condition which would lead to a discussion about the short term and long-term outcomes you desire. This is usually followed with a structured rehabilitation plan designed jointly with you towards achieving these outcomes.
The treatment might include working on your strength, balance, co-ordination and flexibility along with equipment recommendations. A comprehensive home program can also be provided to enable carry over between visits.
With your consent, the Physiotherapist will liaise with the multi-disciplinary team for seamless care and a collaborative approach to optimise management of your condition. If you agree, the physiotherapist can also provide training to your family members or carers on how to integrate physiotherapy treatment into your daily routine.
Where can treatment be provided?
Treatment can be provided at Oxford Street Therapy Centre, home or educational settings depending on where your needs would be best met.
Why see a Private Physiotherapist?
There is mounting evidence that early rehabilitation in neurological conditions leads to improved recovery and better outcomes. This could reduce reliance on family members or carers and decrease the costs of care. The private physiotherapist can start putting things in place and liaise with the wider team so it’s easier for them to continue with your rehabilitation instead of starting from scratch.
