Petra studied Craniosacral therapy in London under Thomas Attlee at the College of Craniosacral Therapy, the oldest and most established college in the UK.
Her interest in Craniosacral therapy (CST) evolved from her work as a midwife and recognition of how pregnancy and the birth process can affect the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies. Birth trauma & the effects of childhood illnesses can remain in our body unresolved for many many years
Whilst studying Petra treated clients from all ages and backgrounds with a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. She would like to use her knowledge & skills to support you.
What is Craniosacral therapy:
It’s origins lie in osteopathy but is different in its approach in that there is no manipulation or “doing things”. Using nothing more than a butterfly touch a craniosacral therapist will listen to your body, much like a counsellor would listen to your words. The cranio (head/cranium) sacral (sacrum/tailbone) and spinal cord system control the central nervous system. The central nervous system manages many of the body’s functions automatically. This includes things such as your heart rate, breathing, digestive system, hormones and how our organs and function. Most of the time they work without you even thinking about it. We only think about them when we are in pain or are unwell.
A Craniosacral therapists role is to support the body to restore itself to normal function. Generally our bodies are able to heal & repair themselves but sometimes too much physical or emotional trauma can build up in the body and it needs a helping hand to get better.
What happens during a treatment:
At your first visit a full medical history will be taken so that Petra can get to know a little about you, your reason for seeking treatment and explanation of how CST may be of help to you.
As it is so gentle it is suitable for new born babies, the vulnerable and elderly. It is a non invasive treatment and you remain fully clothed throughout. Most clients lie down on a couch but you can sit in a chair if you prefer. Babies may be fed or held in a parents arms, young children may play on the floor during a treatment. Please note that children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
CST is a whole body treatment so the therapist can work anywhere from the head to the feet.
The majority of clients feel deeply relaxed and energised after a treatment.
Conditions that can benefit from CST:
For many clients it’s a great way to take time out from their busy lifestyle and daily stressors. A way to simply unwind.
Other conditions can include recovery from the birth process, injuries or illnesses. Emotional trauma, migraines, back aches, vertigo, anxiety. CST has been found to be useful in conditions such as tinnitus and PTSD.
CST is a great treatment because it works on the cause not the symptom. As you continue with treatments your body starts to delve deeper and deeper into itself as it repairs itself from often, ingrained injuries and traumas. Things that we often hold on to for fear of letting go.
